Tom Longstaff
Tom is an experienced barrister who has appeared in the High Court in many complex and high value claims, as well as in appeals before the English appellate courts. He is also a qualified solicitor.
Whilst practicing at the bar, Tom was instructed in many of the major group litigation matters which have emerged in recent years, by some of the key firms in the group litigation market. This includes numerous emissions group actions, including Volkswagen, Volkswagen 2, and Mercedes, and he also advised on the merits of an application for a group litigation Order in respect of a number of significant financial mis-selling consumer claims.
Further, Tom was previously instructed on the group litigation which followed the collapse of Fundão Dam in the state of Minas Gerais and was instructed by local businesses in Brazil who had suffered significant loss and devastation as a result of the actions of the large Australian mining company, BHP Billiton.
Before being called to the bar, Tom was a member of the Dispute Resolution practice of a Magic Circle law firm.
Tom is ranked as a leading barrister in the Legal 500 2023, and as an ‘Up and Coming’ barrister in Chambers and Partners 2023, who describe him as an advocate who ‘takes command of a hearing’.
